The newly enacted “International Foundation Act” of Belize provides for the establishment, operation and regulation of international foundations and to provide for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. A foundation is a civil law alternative to the common law trust and is becoming increasingly popular among investors.

The Belize Foundation Act is largely based on similar legislation in Antigua, the Bahamas and Anguilla, although consideration has also been given to corresponding legislation in Panama and Isle of Man.
